# Swimwear, Underwear and Lingerie Brand Photoshoots Canonical page: https://www.juliayatel.com/photo-shoot-for-swimwear-lingerie-and-underwear-brands/ A swimwear or lingerie shoot starts with the collection: its fit, textures, colors, and the feeling you want to convey. A minimal, graphic campaign needs a different approach from a relaxed beach story. I am now based in Miami, Florida. Here I explain how I prepare [brand photography](), from models and visual direction to location, and share three earlier projects from my portfolio. ## Start With the Collection and Image Use You do not need a finished presentation before we speak. Photographs of the pieces and a few visual references are enough to start. Please include: - The number of pieces and looks, sample sizes, and important product details - Your audience and the mood you want the images to convey - Where the images will be used, including required shapes or space for text - Preferred timing, location ideas, possible video needs, and the production budget ## Choose Models for the Collection I look at the sample sizes, audience, garment fit, and the model’s movement and expression. Swimwear and lingerie make the fit particularly visible. I want someone who shows the pieces clearly and brings the right character to the photographs. My earlier projects involved different models for different collections. For a new Miami shoot, we make a fresh selection based on the task, availability, and intended image use. ## Build the Visual Direction One brand may want clean shapes and strong geometry, as in the SHEIN campaign below. Another prefers glowing skin, soft colors, natural movement, and a wild coastal setting. I look for a relationship between the product, person, and surroundings that suits the collection. A moodboard helps us choose. Bring examples of light, color, composition, styling, and expression, and explain what you like or dislike. The references give us direction without copying another photographer’s work. ## Let the Person Bring Energy to the Frame The cut, fabric, and fit must remain visible, while expression and movement give the image its feeling. A smile may suit one campaign; a quiet expression another. I guide the model toward that direction, keeping the product readable. For me, the person’s energy is what brings the collection to life. ## Plan Location Weather and Privacy in Miami A beach gives us textures and movement; a pool, clean lines and reflections; an interior, privacy; a studio, more control over light. My [outdoor and studio comparison]() explores that choice. In South Florida, plan for heat, humidity, wind, and thunderstorms, with breaks and an indoor or rescheduling alternative. Confirm access and permissions for the exact location, a private changing space, and protection for garments from sand and water. For lingerie, clarify coverage, who will be present, and the model’s comfort before shooting. ## Earlier Swimwear and Lingerie Projects These projects were completed before my move to Miami. Each shows a different approach to a collection. ## SHEIN This was a summer campaign for a new SHEIN swimwear collection, photographed during my years in Portugal. The production included renting a beach club with a swimming pool, selecting models, and organizing a stylist, assistant, and florist, along with makeup, hair, photography, and retouching. The client wanted bright colors and the mood of summer, relaxation, and a pool party. We combined graphic fashion images with relaxed moments, keeping the swimsuits visible. We considered beaches within about 50 kilometers of Lisbon. Production included selecting models, a stylist, and an assistant, makeup and hair, photography, retouching, and behind-the-scenes video. The direction combined saturated colors, radiant makeup, beautiful skin, and varied natural backgrounds with quieter expressions that let the swimsuit designs stand out. The assignment included a beach location, model and stylist selection, makeup and hair, photography, retouching, and video for Instagram and advertising. The client wanted to show the fabric’s delicacy, lightness, and airy texture. A ballerina’s movement helped express that idea. One image was published in PhotoVogue.
